MLB: Tampa Bay 11, Kansas City 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 4 (UPI) -- Carlos Pena knocked in five runs Friday, three with a fifth-inning homer, to lead the Tampa Bay Rays' 11-2 rout of Kansas City.

The veteran first baseman also hit an RBI single in the first and a sacrifice fly in the third.

Carl Crawford had three hits, two RBI and scored three times. B.J. Upton and Akinori Iwamura both drove in one run, while Evan Longoria added three hits for the AL East-leading Rays, whose winning streak rose to five straight games.

Winner Edwin Jackson (5-6) gave up two runs -- one earned -- and four hits in eight innings in his best start this season.

Kansas City's runs scored on Mark Grudzielanek's seventh-inning homer and Jackson's eighth-inning wild pitch.

Four players had one hit for the Royals -- including centerfielder David DeJesus, who ran his hitting streak to 16 games with a single in the top of the first.

The losing pitcher was Royals' starter Brian Bannister (7-8).
