MLB: Boston 6, N.Y. Yankees 4
NEW YORK, July 4 (UPI) -- Mike Lowell's three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning Friday helped the Boston Red Sox top the New York Yankees 6-4.
Lowell also hit a third inning sacrifice fly, giving him four RBI. He was one of four Boston players with two hits.
Jacoby Ellsbury had a run and three hits and Kevin Youkilis -- one of the players with two hits -- added a two-run third inning triple for the Red Sox, winners in the first two contests in the four-game holiday weekend series at Yankee Stadium.
Winner Josh Beckett (8-5) yielded three earned runs and four hits in six innings.
Closer Jonathan Papelbon, the last of four relievers, captured his 25th save despite Derek Jeter's RBI double in the bottom of the ninth.
New York's Alex Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI and Jason Giambi had one RBI. Jeter also had two hits in the Yankees' fifth loss in six games.
The losing pitcher was starter Darrell Rasner (4-7).
Yankees left fielder Johnny Damon left the game after sustaining a left shoulder contusion on Youkilis' triple -- a fly to deep left that Damon appeared at first to catch. Instead, the ball bounced out of Damon's glove and sat on top of the fence before falling onto the field.
