Fisher maintains European Open lead

KENT, England, July 4 (UPI) -- Ross Fisher held a one-stroke lead over Graeme McDowell after Friday's second round of the European Open golf tournament in Kent, England.

Fisher's 36-hole total is 13-under 131.

He started the round with a two-stroke lead after a course-record 9-under-par 63 Thursday and was able to maintain his position at the top of the leader-board despite McDowell's 5-under 67, which had given him the lead in the club-house.

Fisher closed the second round with a birdie at No. 18 to offset bogeys at the 14th and 16th holes.

"After a 63, you just want to go out there and obviously you want to repeat it," Fisher told reporters. "You kind of want to show people that it wasn't a fluke and that you're playing nicely."

Spain's Sergio Garcia jumped from a tie for 30th place Thursday with an 8-under par 64 to move into third at 9-under 135. Denmark's Soren Hansen (67) is fourth at 8-under 136.
